Brewmaster Jerry went with eight ounces of Briess Special Roast, a biscuity, sourdough-toasty malt that lands this beer right in the middle of the experiment's color spectrum. It accents the hops nicely, balancing the amber's sweetness in a way that had the review floating it as a natural fit for a bitter ale.
The beer's real showstopper is its clarity — clear enough to see across the room through, a fact that got the on-camera admiration usually reserved for the beer itself. Well executed, well chosen for the recipe, and one of the cleaner presentations of the year.
